Giving as Partnership, Not Pressure

Giving is one of those topics in the church that can feel confusing, or even intimidating. But the truth is, biblical giving is not about fear or obligation — it’s about partnership with God in advancing His Kingdom. When we give, we are saying, “God, I trust You. I want to be part of what You are doing in the world.”

Tithing: Trusting God With the First

The Bible talks about giving in a clear and practical way. One of the most well-known instructions is the principle of tithing — giving 10 percent of your income (Deuteronomy 14:22-29). In Scripture, the tithe is meant to be brought to your local storehouse, meaning the local church you attend and call home. Tithing to your local church helps support the ministry where you worship, serve, and grow in community.

Faith Over Obligation

In everyday life, most of us already give a portion of our income to federal taxes in the U.S. — for example, the  IRS shows that the lowest federal tax bracket starts at 10 percent and the next bracket is 12 percent, with higher percentages for larger amounts of income. Many people don’t hesitate when it comes to paying taxes, but tithing is different: it is intentional, faith-filled, and meant to bless others while advancing God’s Kingdom work.

Offerings: Giving Beyond the Tithe

Offerings are different from tithes. While tithes follow a set pattern, offerings are gifts given beyond the tithe, motivated by gratitude, worship, or a desire to meet a specific need. Offerings can be given to your local church or to ministries, missions, and causes outside the church — wherever God leads your heart. Offerings give God’s people freedom to respond to opportunities, whether it’s supporting outreach initiatives, helping someone in crisis, or funding programs that advance the Kingdom.

The Eternal Impact of Generosity

Giving is about more than budgets or buildings. Every dollar contributes to discipleship programs, outreach efforts, community care, and leadership development. Proverbs reminds us: “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed” (Proverbs 19:17). Generosity reshapes our priorities, teaches stewardship, and allows God to multiply our resources for eternal impact.

Giving as a Lifestyle

At Rock Church Soulard, we want to make giving practical and life-changing. We encourage people to start by tithing 10 percent to their local church and watch how God uses that commitment to grow faith, strengthen community, and advance His Kingdom. Giving is not a one-time act — it’s a lifestyle. It’s how we participate in what God is doing on earth.

Partnering With God Through Giving

Ultimately, giving is about partnership with God. It’s about believing that He can take what we have and multiply it for His purposes, blessing both the giver and the receiver. When we give, we are investing in eternal impact — in discipleship, outreach, and lives transformed by the gospel.
